The design of Ni Hao Bao began with the food. Handmade bao and dumplings, "simple in form, precise in execution" became the framework for the space itself. That same balance of clarity and craft guided every decision, from the overall layout down to the smallest detail.
The interior unfolds through rhythm and repetition. Natural wood millwork creates structure and warmth, while moments of red and green punctuate the space with energy and intention, referencing both tradition and the bold flavors of the menu. Soft, rounded lighting elements hover overhead, their scale and glow echoing the shapes of the dumplings below and setting an even, welcoming tone throughout the dining room.
As the project evolved, sketches turned into test fits, materials were studied and adjusted, and details were refined on site. Seating was carefully arranged to support the pace of fast-casual service without sacrificing comfort, allowing the space to move easily from quick lunches to lingering dinners. Custom millwork and tabletops anchor the room, while thoughtfully sourced furniture reinforces a sense of order and durability.
By the time the space came together, the design felt effortless, but only because every layer had been considered. The result is an environment that mirrors the food it serves: calm, intentional, and quietly bold, offering a setting where craft is felt even when it isn’t immediately seen.
